The funny business...
Saturday Night Stand-Up
Master of Ceremonies for the evening is HOB favourite Mr. Paddy Bramwells - 'Bramwells ad-libs himself into a captivating rapport with his audiences. A cause for celebration' - The Times.
Quite apart from Paddy being a top MC, as is not unusual here at The HOB, our 3 acts are all usually headline acts elsewhere on the circuit, but we have 'em here on one bill - because they like us and we like you...See below for making of case -
First up is Hils Barker who created, wrote and performed in Radio 4 series Radio9.
Time Out called her 'hilarious and quite brilliant.'
The Guardian called her 'absolutely fantastic.'
And Chortle says ' She demonstrates a cynical intelligence and keen wit.'
Stephen Grant is ' an unstoppable, ebullient motormouth...he distributes his easy mix of anecdotes, observations and gags...building inexorably towards a strong, knockout gag.' Chortle.
In contrast Alan Francis - whose writing credits include Alistair McGowan's Big Impression - is 'as smooth, classy and elegant as a vintage scotch. Laconic Francis is a seductive performer' - Chortle. One can't help but wonder whether our reviewer was overly influenced by the - ahem, 'seductive' copy of those Marks and Spencers food ads. Anyhow, Mr. Francis is very, very funny.
The HOB's most popular musical duo The Hares play anything from Amy Winehouse to The Rolling Stones to Simon and Garfunkel downstairs after the show.
£9/£6. 9pm. Bar till 2am.
Thursday Celebrity Pub-Quiz
Former Vicious Boy, Bill Clinton looky-likey and member of the legendary Comedy Store Players Andy Smart pops the questions...
He's also arguably the most charming man on the circuit - he says he is, I say he isn't.
Monday 2 March The All-New Stand-Up Show...
New Act Night...
7 relatively New Acts do 5-7 minutes showcasing their talent.
Most of these comics have done 50-100 gigs so are well on their way to developing a good set.
We've already slipped 4 acts on to our top-notch Saturday night Stand-Up Show - as an unadvertised extra bonus - such has been the high standard so far.
When we did this gig at the EDT Al Murray, Ross Noble, Boothby Graffoe were among those that pitched up regularly.
They're the future folks and it's only 3 quid.
Man of a 1,014 faces Stephano Paolini comperes.
Do please join The HOB Forest Hill facebook group for All-New Stand-Up Show line-up up-dates.
For those that don't know we have live music at The HOB every Friday. It starts 9.30, it's free entry and the bar runs till 2am.
