Mawkin:Causley at DHFC - Friday 20 March - The Goose Is Out!
Posted by: Sue 03 March, 2009 20:33

Following our great night with Martin Simpson in February, the Goose is delighted to be bringing Mawkin:Causley to East Dulwich!

Mawkin:Causley was/were formed when somebody had the inspired idea to combine the band Mawkin with acclaimed singer and ex-Devil's Interval member Jim Causley

With fiddle, guitar, bass and melodeon, Mawkin:Causley have been described both as "one hell of a boyband" (The Goose is saying nothing) and as "one of the best outfits to emerge in recent years, breathing youthful vigour and energy into folk-inspired music".

You can find out more and listen to some of their music at

And we are delighted to be welcoming both Dan Maitland and Bulgakov back to the Goose.

A great singer, songwriter and musician, our very own local lad Dan Maitland released a beautiful album of acoustic songs last year, "Rumours of a Nice Day." Dan supported Dave Swarbrick at our very first Goose gig last March. Find out more and listen to his music on

Bulgakov is (are?) a seven-piece acapella vocal ensemble who have been singing with the wonderful London Bulgarian Choir for several years. They supported John Kirkpatrick at the Goose last year, and formed Bulgakov so that they could explore songs from beyond Bulgaria and bring this great form of 'open throat' singing to South London, where most of them are based.

Hear some singing from the whole London Bulgarian Choir here:

I've just found out that their great session on Bob Harris's radio2 show last Saturday is on a "listen again"site online till Saturday night, so if youíre quick you can listen to them sort-of-live on the BBC i-player

Thereís a link to the show from this page, donít forget to turn your speakers on, duh (I always remember - oh yes.)

Oh I remember the days when the radio meant Radio Luxembourg under the bedclothes, but hey, I digress ......

Have a listen and then come along on 20th - you know it makes sense ........
