The 0809 from West Dulwich arrives at Blackfriars/City Thameslink for 0825/0827. You can also take the 0819 or 0835 Orpington to Victoria services and change at Herne Hill. When I take the train to City Thameslink I usually go from West Dulwich in the morning and return through Tulse Hill in the evening. I prefer it compared to taking the tube from Brixton.

Deciding which station is better for connections to the City will depend on whereabouts you work. If you're closer to London Bridge, East Dulwich is quicker and direct. If you're closer to City Thameslink or Blackfriars then West Dulwich (or Tulse Hill) is better, although the route is operated by First Capital Connect and that is probably where the bad reputation stems from.

Try the pub quiz on Tuesdays from about 8 o'clock at The Mansion which is just off the Paxton Green roundabout, bottom of Gipsy Hill.
It's very friendly and the quizmaster David is very welcoming. I've often seen people doing the quiz there on their own, but go along and I'm sure it won't be long before you make a few friends. He tends not to do sports questions, which is great for the girls - mainly general knowledge with a picture round. Occasionally he'll do a music quiz. Fee £2.00 per person
I've been doing the quiz there for a while now and really enjoy it.

[General West Dulwich issues / gossip] scam alert

I just wanted to warn others in the area to what I'm pretty sure was a scam in the Turney Road area tonight. We had a mother with 4 children knocking on our door about 8.30pm tonight. One of the kids said they were raising money through their school for children with leukaemia and wondered if we could sponser them. They had a photo-copied sheet with Kelvin Grove primary written on it but no other ID. According to the sheet our neighbours had donated generous amonuts of about £20 to £30 and my husband felt pressured to do likewise when I smelt a rat! Kelvin Grove is miles away in Sydenham, so why would you come all the way out to West Dulwich. I expressed surprise that their school hadn't broken up yet, and they replied it breaks up tomorrow ( I have since checked and it broke up last week like all the other schools in the area, and I even checked out my next door neighbours £20 donation, who expressed amazement and said she had reluctantly handed out £2 which they seemingly hastedly added a zero onto to make others feel compelled to give more. How sad that these children are being dragged around by their mum ( if she even is their mum) late in the evening and being told to lie. In retrospect maybe I should even have called the police, but I thought I should at least warn others int he area of what happened.

Following on from our sell out Smashing Sundress classes we have two new children's clothes workshops for the Autumn:

- Funky Chicken/Easy Peasy Birdie Skirt from Clothkits (remember them!) (Age 1 - 8, picture attached); and

- Cool Kids Cords (lovely elasticated waist trousers with pockets for ages 1 - 5) tried and tested by our own wee beasties!

Class sizes are limited to 5 people (with two teachers, so lots of one on one tuition) on our brand new Brother sewing machines. They are aimed at the absolute beginner, no previous experience required and we provide everything you will need. We've never had a person yet who hasn't taken home something marvellous at the end of the night....

Its a great way to get going with making your own, and will save you a fortune. We've also got plenty of other sewing classes - cushions, bags, A-line skirts you name it!

We're based at All Fired Up, East Dulwich Rd and start the classes after the kids are (hopefully) in bed.

All details are on our website:
